Poll reveals connections between entertainment, politics

Rush Limbaugh touts himself &ndash mostly in jest &ndash as having &ldquotalent on loan from God&rdquo and credits that talent for his huge listenership and dominant perch atop the world of talk radio in America, but an extensive five&ndashmonth polling and research project by Zogby International and the Norman Lear Center at the University of Southern California&rsquos Annenberg School shows his popularity may have more to do with pre&ndashset beliefs in the minds of his listeners than with his presentation skills.

Actually, Limbaugh was ahead of the curve in recognizing the source of his ratings success. He often says it is because he is merely confirming what listeners already believed, not because of his powers of persuasion.

Apple announces iTunes movie rentals

Apple today announced iTunes Movie Rentals featuring movies from all the major movie

studios including 20th Century Fox, The Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros.,

Paramount, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Entertainment,

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Lionsgate and New Line Cinema. Users can rent

movies for as low as $2.99 and watch them on their Macs or PCs, all current

generation iPods*, iPhone(TM) and Apple TV(R). iTunes Movie Rentals launches

today and will offer over 1,000 titles by the end of February, including over

100 titles in stunning high definition video with 5.1 Dolby Digital surround

sound which users can rent directly from their widescreen TV using Apple TV.

iTunes Movie Rentals are priced at $2.99 for library titles and $3.99 for new

releases, and high definition versions are just one dollar more with library

titles at $3.99 and new releases at $4.99.

 
Tackling the rising cost of college

Every year, 400,000 qualified students choose not to attend college because it’s too expensive. And if there’s any question why, you needn’t look any further than a College Board report that was released recently on rising tuition rates.

The findings were bleak: The list price at the average public, four-year university rose by 6.6 percent this year, bringing in-state tuition and fees to an average of $6,185. Students at private, four-year universities felt a smaller, but still significant jump with tuition up 5.5 percent to an average $23,712.
